Scheduled Grounds Maintenance for Schools

Our scheduled school grounds maintenance programmes cover grass cutting, hedge trimming, bed maintenance, litter collection, leaf clearance and hard surface weed treatment. Visit frequency is tailored to season and site requirements, with fortnightly grass cutting during the growing season as standard. Works are timed around the school calendar, with noisy or disruptive operations scheduled during holidays or outside teaching hours where practical.

Playing Field and Sports Pitch Care

Playing fields and sports pitches require specialist attention beyond standard grass cutting. We provide regular mowing to appropriate heights for football, rugby, cricket and athletics, along with line marking, goal mouth renovation, aeration and overseeding. Drainage maintenance and seasonal renovation programmes keep pitches playable throughout the academic year.

Tree Safety Surveys and Tree Surgery

Schools have a duty of care to manage trees on their grounds. Our NPTC-qualified arborists carry out tree safety inspections and condition surveys to identify deadwood, structural defects, disease and storm damage risk. You receive a written report with prioritised recommendations and costings for remedial works. Crown reduction, deadwooding, removal and replanting are all delivered in-house, typically during holiday periods to minimise disruption.

School Fencing, Gates and Security

Perimeter fencing, pedestrian gates, vehicle barriers, bollard installation and playground fencing are supplied and installed to current standards. We work with schools on DfE security recommendations and Ofsted safeguarding requirements. Fencing projects are coordinated with school facilities managers and typically completed during holiday periods for minimal disruption.

Hedge Cutting and Boundary Maintenance

School boundary hedges require regular management for appearance, security and sight-line safety at entrances and drop-off points. We provide scheduled hedge cutting, shaping and reduction using tractor-mounted flails for larger runs and hand tools for detailed work around car parks, pedestrian gates and sensitive areas. All cutting is timed outside the bird nesting season (March–August) unless a pre-works check confirms no active nests.

Winter Gritting and Snow Clearance

Keeping school car parks, paths and entrances safe during winter is essential. We provide pre-treatment gritting, reactive gritting and snow clearance for school sites, with GPS-tracked vehicles providing auditable attendance records. Gritting plans and trigger temperatures are agreed with each school, and salt bins are supplied and replenished as part of the service.

We provide a single point of contact, consistent service standards, unified reporting and simplified invoicing. We offer annual, termly and ad-hoc contract arrangements to suit your school’s budget cycle. Annual contracts provide the best value with a fixed monthly cost covering all scheduled works. Termly contracts suit schools that prefer shorter commitments, and one-off projects such as holiday clearances, fence repairs or tree works can be quoted individually. All contracts include a named supervisor as your single point of contact.

Compliance and Regulatory Standards

Schools have legal obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Occupiers’ Liability Acts 1957 and 1984, and the School Premises (England) Regulations 2012 to maintain safe grounds for pupils, staff and visitors. Our service helps schools meet these duties through documented risk assessments, method statements, operative qualifications and auditable visit records. All herbicide application complies with current DEFRA and HSE guidance, and vegetation works are scheduled in accordance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to protect nesting birds and other wildlife.
